Far Cry 3 can be described as a Fallout with pirates, but it's most definitely better looking than Fallout. The game has a single player campaign and a co-op mode.
PRESENTATION
You play as Jason Brody, a fanatic for adventure, skydiving, tatoos, heights, skiing etc. After he and his friends land on an island, they get captured by the pirates that control that group of islands in the Western Pacific. The leader of the pirates, Vaas, takes you and your friends hostage, thus divides everyone into cages far away from each other. Jason and his older brother try to escape, but Vaas kills Jason's brother in the process and lets Jason run away, barely. In order to take control the entire area, you have to capture pirate outposts by killing everyone in that post, by either sneaking in and killing everyone after disabling the alarm or by just buying tons of ammo and rushing in like a juggernaut (mostly will end with your death). There are also a lot of collectibles (all kinds of plants, artifacts, memory cards etc.). There are a lot of upgrades, and a lot of those abilities were not presented by Ubisoft before, and they are badass! By looting dead bodies and chests (like in Assassin's Creed) you gain money and items. With money, you buy weapon upgrades and camos, with items you either craft items to help you survive or you sell them for money, which can be pretty useful, especially with the fact that every single item has a price. Your wallet, loot rucksack, weapon holsters can also be upgraded (or crafted) with animal hides and skins. After you take over an enemy outpost, you get more side missions to do (a bounty, find and retrieve, supply drop - like in Call of Juarez). As i progressed through the story, i met some very interesting characters. The game can be pretty easy sometimes because you have infinite health boosts (if you're in a firefight, find cover, press 'Q' on your keyboard and Jason will heal himself in a way that depends on how hurt you are, by a bullet, by a fall, by fire). Interesting thing is that Ubisoft has made so many hand animations that Far Cry 3 truly feels like an FPS. During the campaign you will encounter many hand animations, that are either triggered by you, or are scripted, but still look awesome. The voice acting is sweet, makes me feel like i'm reallh there! What i didn't really find great was the distance you have to travel in order to get to certain missions, that are mostly created out of a single conversation and nothing else, after that, you need to unlock a radio tower to see that part of the map.
GRAPHICS
I played this game on low settings, and it still looks marvelous! The level of detail is still high, and the textures don't look muddy at all!
MULTIPLAYER
The co-op campaign is great. It is really fun to play this sort of a thing in two players.
THE VERDICT
Far Cry 3 is outstanding, it looks amazing and it does the amazing. I give this game a 9.5. For more gaming reviews, check out my blog. Laters.
